For list building, I have used both free advertising methods and paid advertising methods. The free method involved traffic exchanges. The paid methods included list builders like ListJoe.com and Google Ads.

Each method has its advantages and disadvantages.   The free method cost nothing in terms of dollars, but certainly costs a lot in terms of time.  If you are part-time, I seriously doubt that you will get any real results in a soon enough period from free methods.  But if you wish to try this type of method, check out this video for a step-by-step method using traffic exchanges (see the Traffic Exchange Set Up under the Traffic Tutorial).

The paid methods obviously cost in terms of money, but the advantages are that they take much less time and you are likely to start seeing some results from day 1.  I get my best results from List Builders (like ListJoe.com).  The list builders also offer free membership but similar to the free traffic exchange method I mentioned earlier, don’t expect to see a whole set of great results as a free member.  The trick to the list builders is to take the one-time-offer when you first join - you will not get a deal that’s nearly as affordable if you skip the one-time-offer and become a paid member later.  For most of the list-builders the one time offer will cost you about $197 for one year (a few may also have a lifetime offer) and in exchange for that you usually get to send your emails to a random 3,000 members every 3 days.  This is a significant volume of traffic that you can reach and I have seen some great results using this method.  I encourage you to watch this free video to see how you can leverage the power of advertising using list builders.

With Google Ads, you have to be very careful and certainly if you are on a tight budget, then this is perhaps not the first place for you to start.  You can easily run up an Adwords bill of a couple hundred dollars a month (or worse) and you will not necessarily see the type of results that you would expect for this type of spend (obviously your results are dependent on the quality of your ads).  When you compare, the price of the list builders for one year (around $197) to what you could spend in one month on Google Ads, then it is most likely going to be a better decision for you to start with list builders.  If you think about it, after 3 months spend on Google Ads, you might already have spent more than what it would have cost you to join all of the main list builders for one year, plus you can refer others to the same list builders and generate half of that $197 if they become paid members.  Overall, with Google, its an expensive way to learn as every click will cost you money, at least with the list builders your costs are fixed and known.

If you do want to start early with Google Ads then I recommend you get a copy of Perry Marshall’s “The Definitive Guide To Google Adwords” and save yourself a lot of headache, time and money.  Also take a look at this video for more tips on using Google Adwords.

Most people coming in to network marketing or MLM in the online world are quickly introduced to the concept of using a “funded proposal” to basically generate money that will cover their prospecting or advertising expenses.  The most usual way this is promoted is via the sale of an e-book or some other similar low cost product that will be useful for any prospect.  The prospect will be attracted to the e-book which will normally be about something important to online marketing or MLM - whether it be setting up a blog, building a capture page or writing effective ads.   Therefore to get this information the prospect opts-in,  joins your list and purchases the e-book.  The challenge with this funding method is that these types of sales are one time sales and new sales must be made every month in order to generate more dollars.  There is another method of creating funded proposals that uses a similar concept of leverage that is applied in MLM.  Click here to find out how you can start using this method today to build your list and generate income each month with much less effort.

I am assuming that you are already familiar with the basic tools of network marketing on the Internet - namely capture pages (also called squeeze pages or landing pages) and auto-responders for email marketing.  There is extensive information out there about how to design a squeeze page system so its not too hard to get up to speed on the basics.

The reality for me and I suspect for a lot of others who never designed a web page in their life is that its very hard and frustrating to actually create these pages.  I spent hours trying to build from scratch, figure out html and was getting no where fast.  I discovered simple tools to get my squeeze pages online faster and have never looked back since.

I started with a squeeze page generator called MarketingMakeOverGenerator, a point-n-click / copy-n-paste system that allows you to design some high quality audio/video squeeze pages.  Check out www.killerleadsystem.com and www.killersqueezepages.com for some squeeze pages I created using this tool.  Its a snap to add audio/video.

Another system I use is Instant MLM Squeeze Pages - a turnkey squeeze page traffic system. I also make money from this system while I prospect.  It is  a viral recruiting machine and I use it extensively to  build my list.  It also allows me to integrate and advertise my primary MLM opportunity. These systems will run you from $20 to $40 per month but remember you should expect to more than cover these expenses from your residual income.

I just started to use another tool called InstantCapturePage. You can in minutes put a fully customized capture page on any website and integrate it with your own auto-responder.  This tool also comes with an attractive income plan (cost just over $100 per year but again you can make residual income).  This is also a list building gem and has some jaw dropping features built in for building a twitter list as well as other features.

If you are struggling with your squeeze pages, I encourage you to take a look at these resources and decide which ones make the most sense for you based on your needs.

One last piece of advice..the squeeze pages were easy to generate but integrating them with my Aweber autoresponder and actually publishing them online using FTP was still a bit technical.  However, thanks to EasyTechVideos which is loaded with easy to follow step-by-step tech videos, I was able to overcome all of these extra challenges.
